SYMPTOMS OF gum disease?

It is important to know the symptoms of gum disease so that you can keep an eye out and identify any problem areas. Some of the most common symptoms include:

  • Sensitive teeth
  • Loose teeth
  • Gums that pull away from your teeth
  • Loss of your teeth
  • Bleeding gums
  • Tender, swollen, and red gums
  • Bad breath that doesn’t go away

THE CAUSES OF GUM DISEASE

Gum disease is caused when inflammation develops due to plaque or tartar that extends beyond the gum line within your mouth. Plaque is the thin film that is left on your teeth after you eat or drink. This film will harden over time and become tartar if it is not removed through routine brushing, flossing, and dental cleanings.

GUM DISEASE TREATMENT

Periodontal treatment methods depend upon the type and severity of the disease. Your dentist will assess the health of your gums, and advise the best course of treatment for your specific case.

Preventive Gum Therapy

Regular hygiene cleanings and exams are important to maintain gum health. Good oral hygiene practices and a balanced diet can help reduce gum disease risk.

Non-Surgical Gum Therapy

If a patient is experiencing mild gum disease, a dental hygienist can perform a deep cleaning to potentially reverse the condition. The hygienist will remove any plaque and tartar present around and beneath the gum line, and then smooth out any rough areas through scaling and root planing.

At our practice, we offer also offer conservative therapies such a laser gum therapy and antibiotic application, which can be highly effective treatments to avoid surgery.

Surgical Gum Therapy

For patients with advanced gum disease, surgical treatment like pocket reduction, gum grafting or regenerative procedures may be suggested.
